FIFA increases prize money for teams participating in the World Cup

H FIFA αυξάνει τo χρηματικό έπαθλο για τις ομάδες που θα συμμετάσχουν στο Παγκόσμιο Κύπελλο

Almost a month and a half before the start of the World Cup (June 11 - July 19), which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada and will be the first in history with 48 teams, FIFA made a significant move, increasing the prize money to be distributed to participants by 15%.

This total distribution will reach approximately 774 million euros (871 million dollars), according to a decision by the Federation at its Council meeting yesterday (28/04) in Vancouver, Canada.

FIFA announced a total of 620 million euros (approximately 727 million dollars) in December, which has now increased "given the commercial success of the men's tournament," as explained in a recent announcement.

According to several foreign media outlets, federations had warned of the risk of financial losses associated with participating in the event, due to significant costs related to transportation, taxes, and a team's daily expenses.

Thus, the "preparation" budget increases from 1.3 million euros to 2.2 million euros, and the "participation" budget from 7.7 to 8.5 million euros.

The amounts allocated for the support of delegations, as well as for the tickets distributed to them, are also increasing.

"FIFA is proud to be in unprecedented financial prosperity, which allows us to support our member associations like never before," said the President of the World Federation, Gianni Infantino.

Finally, the prize money for the tournament had already increased by 50% compared to what was distributed in Qatar in 2022.

Indeed, Argentina's successor, the country that will be crowned world champion, will leave the final in New Jersey on July 19 with nearly 43 million euros.
