It's not the first time that Euroleague confuses spectacular with correct. The play with Bandio's block on Kendrick Nunn was presented as a "magic moment", as if there was no doubt about what really happened, and yet, within a few hours, the organization itself contradicted itself by taking down the video after the player's reaction!
What is surprising is not the disagreement, after all, that is part of sports.
It's the ease with which Euroleague uploads something to its official account without a second thought, and the even greater ease with which it removes it when pressure arises. As if there is no judgment filter, nor a willingness to stand by a choice.
Kendrick Nunn did nothing more than express what many already thought when seeing the play.
That it was a crystal-clear foul. And yet, instead of Euroleague rising to the occasion and explaining (could it possibly explain the reasoning behind choosing a play that involves a wrong decision) or at least allowing the discussion to evolve, it chose the familiar path of deletion and silence. A move that does not solve the problem, but merely confirms it.
Ultimately, the issue is not whether the play was a block or a foul; that is something that is clear.
It is that the organization appears to operate with a social media logic and not with the seriousness that its level demands. When your "magic moment" cannot even withstand the criticism of a single player, then you have a serious problem.
Because at the end of the day, people don't just remember the play; they remember its handling. And that's where impressions are lost.
