Olympiacos: How they can qualify directly for the League Phase without winning the championship

Ολυμπιακός: Πως μπορεί να βρεθεί απευθείας σε League Phase χωρίς να πάρει το πρωτάθλημα

This season is entering its crucial finale, as next Sunday (3/5) will see the 3rd matchday of the Playoffs of the Stoiximan Superleague, where many things can be clarified regarding the teams' goals, especially for Olympiacos.

The "red and whites" are 5 points behind league leaders AEK and are hosted at Toumba by PAOK (19:00), knowing that without a win, they will hardly have serious chances to retain their title.

Even with 2nd place, or even 3rd, they may next year find themselves directly in the League Phase of a European competition.

José Luis Mendilibar's team will be directly in the unified group stage of the Champions League if they are crowned Greek champions again this year.

This will only not happen if Shakhtar Donetsk wins both their domestic league (they are +8) and the Conference League, achieving 3 wins in as many matches.

If they finish in 2nd place, Olympiacos can qualify for the 3rd qualifying round of Europe's premier club competition, provided that Aston Villa lifts the Europa League and finishes in the top four of the Premier League (currently 5th, tied with 4th and 3rd place). In this scenario, they would have secured their presence in the Europa League Phase.

Finally, if the Piraeus team finishes in 3rd place in the Playoffs, they can still qualify directly for the League Phase of UEFA's second-tier competition.

However, Shakhtar would have to win both the Ukrainian league and the Conference League.

Thus, the team from the qualifiers with the highest coefficient (currently Braga but it is quite possible that Olympiacos will have it at the end) will fill the spot of the Conference League winner in the Europa League.
