Barcelona won but couldn't celebrate! The Blaugrana defeated Atletico 2-1 at home in a nerve-wracking match, but the Rojiblancos... flew into the semi-finals, where they await the winner of the Arsenal - Sporting Lisbon pairing (15/4, 22:00).
The first half was a true advertisement for football! Three goals, frenetic pace, intensity, duels and many protagonists.
The visitors froze Madrid in just the 4th minute with Lamine Yamal perfectly slotting past Musso in a one-on-one, after an assist from Ferran Torres.
The play started after a huge mistake in the center of Atletico when in the 24th minute, Olmo passed, Ferran Torres struck powerfully and equalized the score of the first leg for the Blaugrana.
A minute later, the Catalan team almost made it 3-0 and took the lead for qualification, but Musso stopped Fermín López, in a phase where the Barça player bled from the nose and there was a brief interruption in the match.
The visitors were pushing for a third goal, but against the run of play, the Rojiblancos reduced the deficit to 2-1 on the counter-attack with a shot from Lookman, after an assist from Llorente.
In the last quarter of the first half, the pace didn't drop, both teams had their moments, but they went to the dressing rooms with the score unchanged.
Barça were reduced to ten men again
At the start of the second half, the visitors took the initiative on the pitch.
In the 55th minute, Ferran Torres sent the ball into the net, but according to VAR, he was offside and the goal did not count. Barcelona were constantly looking for space, with Atletico focusing on their defense and waiting for their moment.
In the 68th minute, Hansi Flick shuffled his cards, bringing on Lewandowski and Rashford, in place of Fermín López and Ferran Torres. Diego Simeone responded by bringing on Sorloth.
In the 74th minute, the Rojiblancos missed a great chance to equalize with Le Normand shooting from close range and Garcia making the save.
In the 80th minute of the match, the visitors were reduced to ten men, due to the sending off of Eric García for a foul on Sorloth.
In the final minutes of the match, the Blaugrana pushed for a third goal, the hosts managed the result and the match ended 1-2, with the Catalan team taking a victory... without meaning, and the Madrileños celebrating their qualification for the semi-finals of the competition.
