Atletico - Arsenal 1-1: Draw on penalties, qualification in London

Ατλέτικο - Άρσεναλ 1-1: Ισόπαλες στα πέναλτι, στο Λονδίνο η πρόκριση

As expected, less spectacular than the Paris semi-final, the match between Atletico Madrid and Arsenal ended in a draw, with both teams finishing 1-1 with penalties from Alvarez and Gyökeres at the Metropolitano, leaving everything open for qualification to the Champions League final. Everything will be decided in the return leg, which will take place in London on May 5.

The first notable phase belonged to the visitors, with Madueke crossing from the right in the 6th minute but Hincapié was off-target at the far post.

In the 14th minute, Alvarez made a nice individual effort and a powerful shot, but Raya made an impressive save, with Madueke having a long-range shot go wide after half an hour of play.

Eventually, while everything indicated that the first half would end goalless, a foul by Hanczkó on Gyökeres inside the box led to a penalty for the Londoners, which the Swede converted for a 1-0 lead in the 44th minute of the match.

The second half started with a good chance for the Rojiblancos, as Alvarez took a free-kick in the 49th minute but the ball went just wide.

In the 53rd minute, Raya saved Lookman's shot and then Griezmann saw his shot deflected by Gabriel and go wide of the goal.

Eventually, immediately after, Atletico won a penalty for a handball by White, with Alvarez converting in the 56th minute for 1-1!

The hosts also looked for a complete comeback but Griezmann's shot in the 63rd minute hit the post, with Alvarez's incredible corner a minute later finding the Arsenal goalkeeper ready.

Raya was where he needed to be in the 74th minute, to stop Lookman who didn't finish the play as he should have from a good position, with the Londoners winning a penalty against the run of play 4 minutes later but the decision was overturned after VAR review.

In the 87th minute, Mosquera tried his luck with his first touch of the ball without being able to trouble Oblak, while Molina had a powerful shot wide in injury time, with the 1-1 being the final score and leaving everything to play for between the two teams.
