Arsenal - Sporting 0-0: One gets the qualification, the other the applause

Άρσεναλ - Σπόρτινγκ 0-0: Η μεν την πρόκριση, η δε το χειροκρότημα

In the first match, Havertz had tipped the scales in Arsenal's favor at the end.

This time, the Londoners drew 0-0 with the fighting Sporting Lisbon, but even that was enough to send them to the Champions League "last four", where Atletico Madrid awaits. Giorgos Vagiannidis came on as a substitute in the final minutes for the visitors.

The hosts started the match more dynamically, however, the first good chance belonged to the Portuguese, with Trincão shooting wide in the 18th minute.

In the 29th minute, Zubimendi found Gyökeres but the Swede couldn't get a touch on the ball from close range, with Trincão shooting wide again two minutes later.

The biggest chance before the break also belonged to the Lions, as in the 43rd minute Katamo volleyed a shot from the left, but the ball did not oblige and ended up hitting the right post of the Londoners.

The start of the second half saw both teams take more risks, with Arsenal threatening through Eze (50'), Martinelli (56') and Madueke (56') but all their efforts were off target, as was Araujo's (48').

The Uruguayan tried his luck from long range in the 66th minute but Raya was where he needed to be, with time passing and the score not opening up but Sporting remaining in the game.

In the 84th minute, Trossard's close-range header hit the post, while seconds later Jesus shot wide from an acute angle.

Finally, albeit with some anxiety, Arsenal kept a clean sheet until the end, as Simões shot wide in the 90+5th minute, and secured qualification for the "last four" of the top club competition for the second consecutive year, with the Portuguese, on the other hand, being eliminated with their heads held high.
